Travel Tips #1 - Layovers
Most of us hate layovers when we are traveling. What even is a layover? It’s a forced pause on your travel plans. We all have places we have wanted to go right? We save up money and then purchase airplane tickets. Direct flights always cost more, so we go the cheaper route annnd that route comes with dreaded layovers.
But!! Layovers don’t have to be dreaded, if you use them to your advantage. How can you do that?? Pick flights with long layovers in places you’ve never been. A longer layover??? No way! Layovers of up to 4-6 hours don’t really do anything for you. Those type of layovers are for sure a waste of time. By the time you get out of the airport and account for the time it will take you you get back through security to your gate, you’re out of time.
If you choose layovers of 8 hours or more, you have all the time to explore a new city or country. For example, when I went to Greece from Norway, I chose a flight there with a 10 hour layover in Poland and on my way back to Norge I had a 22 hour layover in Budapest! I don’t know about you, but what I see is that for the low price of one plane ticket to Athens, I got to go to Poland and Hungary!
All travelers know that if you go somewhere and you don’t leave the airport, IT DOES NOT COUNT! You didn’t really go to that place! Stop lying! haha But if you leave, get a taxi, go to city, have a couple meals, see all the sights, take a bunch a pictures, and then go back to the airport 20 hours later… That DOES count! I mean at that point, who can tell you that you weren’t there?? I did everything you could do in Budapest! Saw the castle, walked across Chain Bridge, had food, everything. I experienced Hungary and it was amazing, and I got to do it for free!!!
Remember this next time you’re planning a trip and you have a ton of options for tickets and where the layovers are. Make layovers work for you and not against you! See the world and experience new places!!
