The 5 songs I'm listening to this week and why. 11/15/20 - 11/21/20

This weeks list is gonna be only Jeezy and Gucci Mane in honor of their VERZUZ battle they just had. I’m picking my favorite songs by them! I didn’t put “Truth” on it by Gucci Mane even though its one of the hardest diss songs ever. If you don’t know that story, you should look into.

  1. Jeezy - “Almighty Black Dollar” (feat. Rick Ross)

This is actually the lead single from Jeezy’s new album. I wanted to go with classic tracks but this one is so hard. It proves Jeezy is as relevant as ever, whenever he wants to be. From a rapper that debuted half my life ago, 15 years ago, with his Let’s Get It: Thug Motivation 101 album, it’s just a testament to how great Jeezy is. Let’s give him his roses now. Rick Ross’ Black Wall Street line is flamerz!!! Almost 2021 and I’m still loving these guys new music.

  2. Jeezy - “I’m Back”

This song is from the CLAAASIC mixtape “Can’t Ban The Snowman” which came out in 2006 one year after his debut album. The story behind this is that Jeezy called himself the snowman because he sold a lot of coke. He came out with these shirts he would wear that were just a mean mugging white snowman on a black shirt. They were wildly popular and kids wore them everywhere. Once school officials found out what the snowman represented, the shirt was banned in schools all across the country. Therefore Jeezy came out with the mixtape to address it.

About the song, this song goes so deep with me. I was younger and in a completely different mindset when this came out. I really felt this record and I could relate to a lot of it. I had this CD! Somebody got it off Limewire haha. As an older more mature person I finally understand and respect my now favorite part. “I’m not ashamed of who I am or what I’ve become”.

  3. Gucci Mane - “Wasted” (feat. Plies)

I’m sure we ALLLLL have memories to this song! Aye and this is when Plies made music! haha “White Boy Wasted” was a thing! It still is! haha Gucci’s career has so many eras in itself it feels like. This song was one of his first mainstream crossover hits. This song should be on every party playlist.

  4. Gucci Mane - “Heavy”

Somebody help me, my neck hurt, my chain heavy. This beat is hard as hell. Straight Trap Rap all day. This is back in the day Gucci as this album came out about 10 years ago and two prison stints ago. This Gucci was a very different man from the one you see now. And yet different still from the Gucci 5 years before this. Go look at some of Gucci’s first videos. Look at the quality and look where he is. This man rapped about what he was actually doing. He is a real street dude that started making music. This song goes though!

  5. Gucci Mane - “So Icy” (feat. Young Jeezy)

This is the song that introduced me and most of the world to both Gucci Mane and Jeezy. When this song came out in 2005 Jeezy had a buzz just around Atlanta. Gucci was up and coming, trying to clean up his dirty drug money by making music with the hopes of being able to leave street life forever. This most definitely achieved what both of them hoped, that’s for sure.
