The 5 songs I'm listening to this week and why. 9/27/20 - 10/3/20
Kevin Gates - “Satellites” Remix (Feat. Wiz Khalifa)
Where has Wiz been?!? I love Khalifa’s verse on this song. I was already a huge fan of the original song and this one is just as good, if not better. I don’t know about you but I like when Gates sings. I read that he had singing lessons from R&B singer Monica. If you have never heard this remix, check it out! If you have, play it on repeat.
3 Doors Down - “Here Without You”
You guys know of my exploits. The crazy plans and crazier stories after I’ve done it. I have had many plans over the years and a lot of them have not happened. There have been people who were supposed to be a part of all of this and they’re not here. I never thought I would be doing all of this alone I guess. No matter how cool or amazing or great something is, it’s nothing if you don’t have anyone to share it with. So really the title of this song holds true. Everywhere I am, I’m here without you… You’re allowed to miss the past while remaining hopeful for the future. If it shall be, it will be.
Tracy Chapman - “Fast Car”
Clearly, I had dreams of leaving where I was and moving away. This is the ultimate anthem for anyone feeling stuck and wanting to move on, up, or away. If you have ever had any dreams then you understand this song and the desire, desperation, and motivation. I have been a janitor, worked at a lumber mill pulling green chain, been a bering sea fisherman, been a full time 5 day a week dishwasher at a restaurant, and even worked in a grass seed factory but like Ms. Chapman says in the song, despite all of this “I had a feeling I could be someone”.
50 Cent - “I’m The Man” (Remix) (Feat. Chris Brown)
Shout out to Chris Breezy #WeFromVirginiaTho and my man 50 Cent! Too much on my mind right now, I’m on my grind right now! I am holed up in a room all day everyday writing a book about my life and I really feel like I’m writing something special. Right now I’m nothing, a nobody, but to myself “I’m The Man” and soon you’re gonna think so too!
Puff Daddy - “All About The Benjamins” (Remix) (Feat. Jadakiss & Sheek Louch of The Lox, Lil’ Kim, and The Notorious B.I.G.)
Biggie’s part is legendary “Fuck the state pen, fuck hoes at Penn State”. But Kim’s part is dope too. The whole track is a classic. I wonder why Styles isn’t on the track though. The only Lox member left off. Either way. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.
