The real Dublin that Ireland doesn't want you to know about! 🇮🇪
Ireland!! It's a country everyone has heard about. 10% of Americans identified as being Irish or having Irish heritage as recently as the 2017 United States census. Many people have dreams of coming to Ireland. Also, Irish people… DRINK! There are more pubs in Ireland than in California AND New York combined. And that's 50 million versus 5 million. I was in Dublin and although I visited Castlerea and Howth, I was primarily in Dublin and it's not unusual to see two or even THREE bars in a row on a street. I stayed at the Abbey Court Hostel and it is by far the best hostel I have ever stayed at! Overall, I actually do not recommend you going to Dublin first when visiting Ireland but instead Galway, but if you must, the Abbey Court Hostel is where you wanna be!
The thing most prevalent in Dublin is DRUGS!! They're literally everywhere. It was shocking to me actually. I mean listen, I have been around drugs, people doing them, people selling them and have frequented many (many) places where drugs were the main activity going on and I was still SHOCKED. As a result, the whole place feels kinda dirty. There was also violence. Two separate people I know got attacked by druggies in the streets! One, while on the phone, had a junkie walk up on her and grab her phone out of her hand and take off running! 🤯 A second person I know, had two attack him in an alley way trying to steal anything from his pockets. He put up an amazing fight though and they didn't get any of his belongings. He was left with bloody knuckles as a result. I've certainly been in some VERY shady places in my day, but this is mind blowing. And I swear drugs have to have been decriminalized because they were being done in the open, day or night, and literally right in front of the police.
What I’ve said is a fact. However, despite that, Ireland is a lovely place and the Irish people are so nice and I had a wonderful time. I’m just saying that if you looking to go with family that Galway is way more family friendly than Dublin. Dublin has a sense of danger to it if you aren’t paying attention, but that could be said for ANY major city around the world. Just keep your head on a swivel baby!
Guinness… Oh. My. Gawd. I have drank Guinness beer before of course, but the Guinness in Ireland hits DIFFERENT! You absolutely have not drank the real deal if it wasn’t in Ireland. I never drank so much Guinness in my life and it was LOVELY.
Irish Whiskey… Marvelous! Tullamore DEW is my favorite Irish Whiskey. People everywhere in Ireland really are not fans of Conor McGregor’s Proper Twelve Whiskey. You guys should know that I asked around. If you remember when Conor punched that old guy in the bar in the face right? It was literally because the old man didn’t want to drink the Proper Twelve shot Conor was asking him to drink. Imagine that, an Irish man in a bar turning down a free shot of whiskey, IRISH whiskey, in Ireland, from an Irish megastar! That’s all you need to know about when it comes to that whiskey lol.
Fun fact. Whiskey is spelled with an “E” in the USA and Ireland. All others are spelled Whisky. Scotch Whisky, Japanese Whisky, Canadian Whisky etc. For a good time, you should research why.
If you go grocery shopping, Tesco has deals! They have the lowest priced meat that I’ve ever seen and here’s why lol. That meat is gonna expire TOMORROW! haha I ain’t lying! The people there know lol. Buy meat from Tesco and its gotta be cooked tonight. Remember I told you.
Temple Bar is a famous bar AND district in Dublin. For example you can go to the actual Temple Bar or you can go to a different bar in Temple Bar like the area. Temple Bar the bar is great for photos but its soooo expensive because its the main tourist area. Go drink somewhere else. It’s the same drinks but for cheaper! Don’t go too cheap on drinks. My friend Julia took me to this place and it was 5 euro cocktails and… No, just, no lol. They were terrible. She warned me! I didn’t listen and I paid the price for a terrible drink i could not even finish!
The museums are amazing and FREE!! I ball on a budget so I am a fan of cool things that interest me and are free.
Overall I had a blast in Ireland. Dublin is cool and has many cool things to do and see but just beware of what I’ve told you. Galway is the place you really wanna check out as well. Drink Guinness all day and never Proper Twelve lol. Ireland has dope beaches too!! I was there over the wintertime and you’d have to be crazy to get in the water then but I’m sure summer is okay. If you have any questions please leave a comment and I’ll answer it!
