King Von and Chicago Drill Legends

R.I.P KING VON

It’s hard being a drill rap fan. I mean the music is great. I enjoy it. I’m an adult that understands the difference between reality and entertainment. Drill rap does blur those lines, as a lot of what is said in that form of music, is factual. That’s why being a fan is hard. Because I like so many of the artists and their music and then they end up dead! King Von is the latest and it hurts because I was rocking with him! I was just watching the “I Am What I Am” video this morning! Since my YouTube search had his name in it in order to find that video, imagine how shocked I was when the next video said he had been shot! Then he was dead. He had such a bright future ahead of him. It’s sad to say this is an all too common recurrence.

The first Drill song I ever heard was Chief Keef’s “I Don’t Like”. That introduced me to 300 and Lil Reese and Lil Durk and Fredo Santana. 2012 was the year! 300 introduced me to 600 and LA Capone and RondoNumbaNine, Cdai 22, Edai, Tay600, S.Dot and then later 600 Breezy with his DWMTM freestyle. Free D Rose!! I haven’t forgotten about you even if they don’t shout your name as much anymore. They were making bangers! “6 Double O” parts 1 and 2. Then there was NLMB and Lil Bibby and G Herbo who was then known as Lil Herb. I’m not a gang member and I do not gang bang. So when it came to the music and listening to who these guys were talking about and beefing with, it made me wanna listen to them too! So I got into King Lil Jay, and FBG Duck, and FBG Wooski. BD’s or GD’s don’t matter to me, the fan, I just like the music. Young Pappy! Lil Jojo. All would’ve really been factors in this music game. So it sucks when your favorite rappers from both sides end up dying. I know gang ties run deep but I also can’t help but think like, damn, if they really could just get together for the money, they would all be multi multi millionaires. Also, DJ Akademiks literally made his entire career off of covering Chicago. I should say his career’s start. He’s since branched way out from that but it was his “War in Chiraq” YouTube channel that propelled him into what you see today. He’s prolly closer to a million than a lot of the people who he reported on. Everybody gets rich off of Chicago and all the talent they have there, meanwhile, a lot of the talented people never get to see it. RIP OTF Nunu. RIP Dooski Tha Man. RIP Lil’ Mister, “No Lackin” was and still IS the ANTHEM!

Shout out to Durk! He really seems like he’s a real one. Helping getting his people on and being as relevant today as he ever was! Even more so! Durk is the only one left from the original wave that is still making noise in the music biz musically. At least from 2012 when I started listening. I pray him and all the drillers. I hope yall stay alive and stay gettin money! Beef aint cool man. Raising a family is cool. Seeing your children graduate high school and college and becoming a grandfather is cool. I know it hurts and when the beef is on, I know you just wanna attack. But yo, lets attack this money!! Success is the best revenge.

Below are some of my favorite videos from Chicago rappers. Rest easy to those in the ground. May the ones in the box see freedom again.
